Skin bleaching creams have always been controversial products. At first, skin bleaches were around surrounded by shadiness but have slowly made its way into legit cosmetic production. Rumors of creams that you can apply and have almost immediate, dramatic results have always flooded the skin lightening community, but have always been attached to negative side effects They aren’t just rumors, there are powerful bleaching creams that have turned the darkest pigments into shades several hues lighter.
Skin bleaching creams for lightening skin reduce the Melanin in the skin, which is what gives darker skin a darker color. Most bleaching creams contain mercury, steroids, vitamin A and Hydroquinone, a very strong skin lightening agent. Skin whitening agents like Hydroquinone are usually prescribed by a dermatologist and meant for spot treatment. It is highly not recommended for all over face or body use. I have had prescriptions for Hydroquinone to treat dark scarring and it really does work but come with strong side effects, even when used just for spot treatment. I really cannot imagine rubbing Hydroquinone or bleach all over my face, but apparently many have with good and bad results.
There are a long range of possible side effects from dry, irritated skin, discoloration, to even skin cancer. Melanin is what helps protect your skin from harmful UV rays and stripping your skin of its natural Melanin will make the skin lighter but also increase hypersensitivity. If one decides to use bleaching creams, you MUST wear high SPF sunscreen and keep your skin thoroughly moisturized.
All though companies are now making over-the-counter skin bleaching creams that are safer for consumer use, you still must exercise the utmost precaution when using bleaching products. Experiment on small areas of your skin and give it a few days as reactions may take time to surface.
All recommended products contain no more than 2% Hydroquinone and should not be used for extended period of times. Also, please know that photos promising results like this are Photoshopped.
